Go Floating
A wall-mounted vanity in the 24–32 inch range instantly opens up floor space. The visible floor beneath it tricks the eye into perceiving more room. Mount it at 34 inches (measured to the countertop) for comfortable use.
Choose a Shallow Depth
Standard vanity depth is 20–22 inches. For bathrooms under 5 feet wide, look for 16–18 inch depth models. You lose a couple of inches of counter space but gain a noticeably wider walkway.
Vessel Sinks Save Counter Space
An above-counter vessel sink sits on top of the vanity, which means the countertop does not need a cutout. This preserves the full surface area for toiletries and keeps the visual line clean and unbroken.
Light Finishes Expand the Space
White oak, natural ash, and light walnut finishes reflect more light than dark stains. Pair a light vanity with a slim slate countertop for contrast without heaviness.
Skip the Mirror Frame
A frameless or thin-edge mirror mounted wall-to-wall above the vanity reflects the room and doubles the visual depth. Add integrated LED backlighting to eliminate the need for sconce fixtures that eat into wall space.
Use the Vertical
A narrow recessed medicine cabinet (14–16 inches wide) adds storage without projecting into the room. Some models include internal outlets for electric toothbrushes and shavers.
